About us:

Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group’s relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors. IB&M provides a full range of capital raising, transactional and risk management products and services.

IB&M’s strategy is to help build Australia’s future economy and to be Australia’s leading corporate and institutional banking franchise. 

The Credit Risk Team Americas is responsible for the oversight and Credit Risk management of the IB&M activities in the Americas primarily supporting our Natural Resource, Energy & Carbon, and Efficient Supply Chain, and Networks Ecosystems.

Do work that matters:

As a Manager you will support an Executive Manager to assess the probability of default of the project borrower/transaction, assess the debt recovery in the event of default and present transactions and annual reviews for approval and/or decisioning under your own delegated approval authority. 

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Credit analysis of project finance, specialized and corporate lending transactions across sectors such as renewable energy, technology and other general corporates. 
  • Living the Bank’s ‘Should we?’ test you will need to critically assess technical, financial, legal and Credit Risk aspects of transaction assets and structures. This requires strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to efficiently evaluate complex transactions in order to focus on the key risk elements.
  • You will work collaboratively with relationship managers (Line 1) and product experts to produce a detailed credit proposal. The candidate will be required to work with an existing syndicate’s model or create a forecast using one of the Bank’s proprietary models.
  • Transaction review and assessment involves significant due diligence and a deep and thorough understanding of complex asset lending and ownership structures, market and industry knowledge and economic trends.
  • The candidate needs to possess a curious mind and want to develop knowledge and experience in project finance and institutional bank lending and its related derivative products (interest rate swaps, foreign exchange & commodity hedging).
  • Portfolio monitoring and interim/annual review assessment is required including financial covenant compliance, industry and market trends, stress testing, and production of ad hoc reports for head office alongside various team administration. A strong knowledge of institutional banking risk policies and procedures is a core requirement. 
  • Transactions will consist of syndicated and bilateral risk positions across a variety of industries.  Particular emphasis is on renewable energy including solar, wind, battery storage, and merchant power markets. The broader portfolio also covers multinational corporations across a variety of industries such as technology, manufacturing, and consumer products. 

We are interested in hearing from you if you have/are:

  • Self-starter with an interest in renewable energy and a curious and inquiring mind are essential.
  • 7+ years of Credit Risk experience.
  • Corporate, project finance, specialized finance and complex transaction structure experience beneficial.
  • A positive attitude and capability to multi-task is critical.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting and legal documentation.
  • Qualitative and quantitative analyses (models are excel-based) experience.
  • Work with teams in Australia.
  • Strong Word and Excel skills.

The salary range for this role is from $140,000 to $175,000. The salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business line, and geographic/office location.
