Pembroke Resources is an Australian company that owns the Olive Downs Complex, a large-scale world-class steelmaking coal mine located in the Bowen Basin of Queensland. Over $1 billion has been invested in the Complex and operations commenced in June 2023.
The Olive Downs Complex has been built to be a mine of the future, with fully autonomous haulage and drilling implemented from day one, enabling an efficient ramp up to the Stage 1 production level of 6 Mt per annum and most significantly, setting new standards in embedded ESG practices.
It is an exciting time to join Pembroke, as we finalise the construction of Stage 1 and commence coal production.
As the Manager Environment at the Olive Downs Complex, you will play a pivotal role in leading the development and execution of environmental management across our entire site (coal tenements, biodiversity offsets and pastoral lands). Reporting to the General Manager of Operations, you will also collaborate with the General Manager ESG in Brisbane to ensure that Olive Downs meets and exceeds all environmental and social regulatory commitments and ensure we deliver Pembroke's ESG strategy.
Your responsibilities will span:
- Being the site-based expert on environment management and part of the site leadership team.
- Leading the site based environmental team members.
- Accountability for the implementation of the Environmental Management System including all water management, rehabilitation, spotter catcher clearance and biodiversity offset plan activities, controls, and compliance.
- Implementing automated solutions for live and aggregated reporting on key metrics, this will capture data from air/noise/dust/water monitoring and more.
- Planning and coordinating with specialists for fauna management and biodiversity programs.
- Ensuring compliance with approvals liaising with regulators where necessary.
- Ensuring environmental incidents are investigated and implement recommended corrective actions.
- Fostering a professional and positive work environment.
- Establishing constructive partnerships with site-based contractors.
- Identifying and educating stakeholders on the importance of environmental management plans.
- Defining clear business deliverables for contractors and consultants and implementing recording and reporting systems.
- Strategic approach to improved value from contract partnerships.
Requisite qualifications and experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, management or similar.
- A profound knowledge of current environmental practices adaptable to Olive Downs.
- Previous experience in leading environmental management across a mining lease and offset areas.
- An agile negotiator with advanced skills in stakeholder management, adept at navigating the complex dynamics of a mining operation.
- A champion of environmental stewardship.
- A highly capable and adaptable solution focussed thinker.
- Awareness of leading edge ESG practices and approvals framework.

This is a site-based role, on a Monday to Friday roster. If you choose to live locally, we offer housing assistance, alternatively we will provide full camp accommodation and flights home each weekend.
