About the role & team
The Manager, Financial Risk is a vital role in the Financial Risk Team, which is responsible for market and liquidity risk oversight and reporting for the Challenger Group and the Challenger Life Company (CLC). Challenger operates two core investment businesses - a fiduciary Funds Management division and an APRA regulated Life division. Challenger Life is Australia's largest provider of annuities providing a regular income to thousands of Australians
You'll be responsible for limit monitoring, reporting and providing risk analytics that support informed decision making and improve market and liquidity risk management and awareness across the organisation.
You will work collaboratively with investment managers and support teams, providing you the opportunity to gain holistic risk and product experience across fixed income, equity, real estate, infrastructure, and annuities.
Other key responsibilities will include
- Market and Liquidity Risk Reporting Ensuring robust monitoring and reporting of market and liquidity risks.
- Risk Analytics Support: Assisting team members in producing insightful risk analytics and preparing risk committee reports.
- Portfolio Monitoring: Keep a vigilant eye on portfolio risk profiles and investigate any changes or variances
- Stress Testing: Conduct stress tests using hypothetical and historical scenarios to evaluate market and liquidity risks.
- Quantitative Analyses: Perform ad-hoc quantitative analyses to support decision-making.
- New Product Approval: Contribute to the approval process for new products and transactions.
- Project Involvement: Participate in various projects and initiatives as a risk subject matter expert.
The team will also invest in training and developing new team members so this role will suit someone with drive, curiosity and motivation to learn and develop themselves continually.
Skills and experience needed
You'll have strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated interest in financial markets, and the desire and initiative to develop product and risk modelling knowledge
You'll have a relevant degree in a quantitative field or STEM science subject with ideally 5+ years of post-graduate financial market's experience.
You'll also need.
- Understanding of the underlying mechanics that drive financial markets. Practical exposure to product valuation will be looked upon favourably
- Ability to identify Financial Risk exposures from a range of asset classes
- Basic programming experience will be required to efficiently access, organise and analyse risk data. SQL experience is preferred, other languages will be looked on favourably
- Strong work ethic with a proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to agreed deadlines.
- Creative thinking and excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly
