Manager Governance and Legal - Temporary Maternity Relief About Us Gunnedah Shire Council is an integral part of the Gunnedah community, a vibrant, warm and friendly town surrounded by the expansive Liverpool Plains and framed by the Kelvin Ranges. The Opportunity The Gunnedah Shire Council now has an exciting full time (35 hours per week) opportunity for a Manager Governance and Legal - Temporary Maternity Relief to join their team in Gunnedah, NSW. Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, the Manager Governance and Legal is responsible for ensuring, but is not limited to, the following: Providing strategic direction and operational oversight for a small team of Governance professionals to deliver quality Governance, Legal, Risk Management, Legislative Compliance, Procurement, Administration and Corporate Planning services. Policy development and generic legal assistance including the review of contracts. Oversight of legal matters to support the Executive Leadership Team and Senior Management Group. Ensuring Council’s policy framework is compliant with statutory and industry standards and Council requirements. Interpreting legislation and providing advice to the Executive Leadership Team on matters related to law and legislative compliance. Providing legal drafting, interpretation and advice to Council senior management on matters related to contracts, agreements or general legal enquiries, and directing and briefing to external legal advisors where required. Lead the development of the Department’s Annual Business Plan, budget and future strategy. Manage and lead the development of Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework including, Council’s Community Strategic Plan, Delivery Program and Operational Plan. Lead and manage the Governance team to ensure individual accountabilities and team performance objectives are achieved Lead special projects and cross team initiatives. Act at all times to maintain and wherever possible enhance the image of Council. Our next Manager Governance and Legal To be considered for this role, you will ideally have appropriate tertiary qualifications and demonstrated experience in a governance, legal or similar role. Council is looking for a professional communicator with the ability to negotiate, influence and consult with multiple stakeholders. You will also have demonstrated leadership and management skills in providing strategic and operational oversight of a small team. A comprehensive knowledge of legislation applicable to local government and a current drivers license is also paramount.
