About our Team

Our department offers comprehensive statewide inpatient and outpatient services, to children and adolescents facing chronic, recurrent, acquired, or difficult to treat Infectious Diseases. We provide specialised services including the statewide management of HIV, tuberculosis (at the Anita Clayton Centre in central Perth), and syphilis, and antimicrobial stewardship through the Children’s Antimicrobial Management Program (CHAMP), Stan Perron Immunisation Service, and a Combined Immunodeficiency Clinic.

We are dedicated to ensuring the optimal use of antibiotics and maintaining high standards of safety and quality in our services, which intersect across the hospital and the entire state. We provide clinical input into infection control and prevention strategies and work in close collaboration with medical and health professionals, as well as laboratory-based microbiology services at PathWest, and regional and remote teams to support children who are managing or at higher risk of Infectious Diseases.

Through engaging with our young patients, carers, clinicians, and the health service system, we ensure that our patients and their families are active partners in the continuous improvement of early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Infectious Diseases.

We are proud of our contribution to infection and immunisation research which has received international recognition. In partnership with the Wesfarmers Centre of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases at Telethon Kids Institute, we are proud to have secured a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Investigator Award, with $2.8 million of funding which enables our team to work closely with Aboriginal families and communities –both in metropolitan and regional areas.
