Your new role

As the Manager Investment Risk Advisory, you will play a key part in the Group Risk team and interface with Investments. You will support the Senior Manager to provide advice, oversight and challenge on Risk Management practices across AustralianSuper’s Investments business areas. This will include working closely with L1 in identifying, assessing and managing risks within the context of our Risk Management Framework and Risk Appetite Statement. 

Key duties include but are not limited to:

  • Work with the Senior Manager and act as a trusted advisor and business partner to the Investments areas on all risk matters; well thought out advice to ensure that the First Line effectively manages risk, and in doing so, achieve measurable business and member outcomes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships at all levels across the Investments areas and have a strong understand on business objectives, challenges and risks (current and emerging) to facilitate greater collaboration between First and Second lines of defence in relation to the management of risk relevant to Investments areas.
  • Provide insights, analysis, interpretation and challenge regarding Investments risk profiles, based on a thorough technical understanding of Risk Management, together with knowledge of the business. 
  • Working with the Senior Manager provide independent, specialist Second Line Risk support through oversight and challenge of First Line risk management activities. 
  • Partner with the Senior Manager on the oversight of Investments risk and control testing and assurance programs and activities across First Line. 
  • Working with the Senior Manager undertake Second Line monitoring and oversight activities in line with areas of focus and scope agreed with the business, and influence business decision making regarding findings and improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Group Risk team to deliver accurate and insightful risk reporting where required.

What you’ll need  

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Law, or Financial Services Industry related field.  Relevant post graduate qualifications e.g. CFA would be highly regarded. 
  • Strong Superannuation or Investment/Financial Risk experience (6+ years), preferably gained in a Financial Services organisation in a portfolio management/analytical role or a risk management role. 
  • Deep understanding of Investment Risk in all its manifestations and guises including market, liquidity and counterparty risk, and its implications for a long term institutional investor. 
  • Strong communication, consulting and relationship skills with the ability to engage, influence, and drive desired outcomes. 
  • (Preferred) experience in dealing with APRA, ASIC and other financial services regulators.
  • Strong ability to write with effect, particularly in relation to creating reports and updating risk framework and policy documents.
  • Strong understanding of control design and operating effectiveness.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical and investigative skills.
