BG&C is ANZ’s Control Officer role in our Non-Financial Risk Framework. It is one of seven critical accountability families across the Three Lines of Defence, that operate within the Group Risk Management Framework to ensure ANZ manages non-financial risk within appetite.
Drives the cultural change and embedding of the NFR Framework and associated policy requirements on behalf of the business and its ultimate Line 1 Risk Owner.
Line 1 SME in NFR Framework and policy related matter
Measures and monitors NFR, ensuring Line 1 operates within the Framework and Appetite.
Ensure Line 1 accountabilities are executed in line with requirements and risks are managed within Risk Theme and Group Appetite
Partners with Risk Owners to oversee the discharge of their accountabilities for end-to-end risk management within Line 1;
Oversee risk identification and assessments, Control application, risk response and ongoing monitoring activities.
Advises Control Owners in their design and implementation of Controls suitable for managing Line 1 risks and meeting external and internal requirements.
Consolidate on behalf of Line 1, NFR stakeholder management, governance, and Controls effectiveness testing.
Establish and execute a clear control monitoring and testing process; provide assurance to Risk Owner on control effectiveness; advise Control Owners on remediations as necessary; provide appropriate reporting to Divisional risk forums.
Advise on remediation plans to Risk/Control Owner/s where Issues and Events relevant to Controls have been identified and escalated.
Catalyst to identifying and understanding future and emerging strategic risks relevant to Line.
What will your day look like
The purpose of this leadership role is to support the business understand, implement, and adhere to the ANZ risk and compliance framework effectively by providing expert advice, insights and coaching that helps embed sustainable and well managed risk practices that protect ANZ’s customers, employees, and shareholders.
Partner with Risk Owners and Control Owners to support them in discharging their responsibilities and accountabilities.
Oversee the consolidation of first line risk and control priorities and capability, assurance reporting, governance, and stakeholder management.
Drive uplift in risk culture across Institutional Operations and promote 'risk is everyone's responsibility'.
Empower the BU to manage their operational and compliance risks by providing expert advice, insights and coaching to help them embed sustainable and well managed risk practices to protect the interests of ANZ’s customers, employees and shareholders.
Event Management recording and monitoring, Issue Management and various reports are completed in a comprehensive manner.
Provide guidance to queries from testers on interpreting / managing test execution and results ensuring controls are tested in accordance with Control testing Guidelines as per ANZ I.AM Framework.
Attending BG&C discussions with Transaction Banking Australia business stakeholders to understand the upcoming priorities, activities, and changes.
Play a lead role in preparation of risk forum packs with high quality for a senior stakeholder audience.
Proactively identify process and control weaknesses and provide meaningful feedback to the business to mitigate operational risk and meet compliance obligations.
Identify emerging risk and issues.
Succeeding through collaboration with the Business and other dependent teams.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
Around 15 years of relevant work experience.
Ability to think strategically and work autonomously and collaboratively.
Understanding of Non-Financial Risk Management at ANZ and the role of the Control Officer.
Production of high-quality written materials for a senior stakeholder audience.
Knowledge of effective application of ANZ’s non-financial risk framework.
Structured thinking with demonstrated ability to use and apply innovative solutions to effectively manage non-financial risk.
Aptitude for risk management discipline and framework(s) including key control testing.
Raising and managing reportable events and supporting regulatory engagement as required
Risk reporting including assisting with preparation of monthly Risk Management Forum packs.
Support activities within Transaction Banking’s risk profile as per Group Operational Risk Framework (I.AM)
Some knowledge of Transaction Banking products and channels
Ability to build strong, open, and collaborative working relationships.
‘Good to have’ knowledge, skills, and experiences.
Understanding of ANZ’s Institutional Business structure and function
Familiarity with the I.AM Amplified transformation in progress.
Experience designing and implementing business process improvement.
