Jumbuck are a fourth-generation Australian business with large scale sheep and cattle stations throughout Australia with head office in Adelaide.We are seeking an experienced Manager for Mulgathing Station which runs around 30,000 Merino sheep over an area of 530,000 hectares. With a full-time permanent staff of 7 comprising of pilot, station hands and cook. Mulgathing is located in the north-west pastoral region of SA. Situated in 175mm rainfall country, the station is divided into 80 paddocks watered by 32 bores and 156km of pipeline servicing the numerous stock watering points. It is in close vicinity to three other Jumbuck stations, allowing for support and a busy social scene.
The homestead offers a spacious 4-bedroom setting with a fully ducted evaporative aircon and comes partially furnished including Starlink internet and landline telephone. An approved RFDS airstrip is located nearby.
The Manager will be responsible for the development and delivery of the livestock program and will report to the Director verbally and via weekly emails. You will also provide mentoring and training to staff, hold responsibility for the timely service and maintenance of station plant and equipment, waters and fences. While the station is moving towards solar bores, there are still a number of windmills in active use and experience in operating, servicing and repairing mills will be necessary. Additionally, you will need to be mechanically minded and offer skill in welding and fabrication. Do note, due to the age of the property, asbestos laden pipes and bore materials are still in use in some areas and may require repair work from time-to-time.
The job receives direct administrative support from head office in areas such as HR and recruitment, WorkCover and WH&S, purchasing, transport and logistics. You will also have a direct line of access to Directors.
As a successful Manager you will be hands-on, motivated and with experience managing pastoral properties, ideally with a focus on Merino sheep. Your strong leadership and people management skills will be crucial to your success along with your pastoral knowledge, mechanical aptitude (including knowledge of windmills and solar), organisational skills and commitment to developing a culture of safety and productivity.
