Two divisions – Santos Energy Solutions and Santos Upstream Gas and Liquids – are accountable for global portfolio management and strategy.
 
About the Role
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a skilled Finance Manager to join Santos’ Finance team. Based at our Global Headquarters in Adelaide and reporting to the Group Controller, you will Manage the Group Finance - Financial Reporting team, which is responsible for the provision of timely, reliable and relevant accounting technical information to assist with the management of group activities and meeting the Group's obligations relating to internal management reporting, external financial statutory reporting and ASX Financial Reporting

This incorporates monitoring developments in accounting policies and standards and for providing accounting-based training programs and finance systems support, to ensure achievement of the Company’s strategy and shareholder value.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Preparation and review of the Santos Group Financial Statements for the half-year and year-end reporting periods, ensuring compliance with the most recent disclosure requirements under accounting standards and other statutory or regulatory requirements.
  • Co-ordination and control of the annual subsidiary financial statements process. Including review of financial statements ensuring compliance with most recent accounting standards and other statutory/regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare Audit and Risk Committee papers and applicable Board papers.
  • Oversee statutory reporting timelines and obligations, including assistance with the co-ordination of external audits for compliance with Group Accounting controls, policies and procedures.
  • Assistance with general corporate governance and maintaining corporate group structure, including working closely with Company Secretariate.
  • Collaboration with other Finance teams including Taxation, Treasury, Investor Relations and Asset Finance teams within Santos to identify accounting issues which may require technical consideration and corporate resolution.
  • Business partnering with Commercial and Business Development teams, to assist with application of technical finance reviews ensuring appropriate business outcomes are achieved.
  • Assist with implementation of new processes and/or controls as required due to change in Group policies or practices (including change across whole of business, not confined to the Finance community). Specifically with implementation of new accounting standards.
  • Mentor and develop finance staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth, while building a high-performing finance team.
  • Other duties as required at the direction of the Group Controller or Chief Financial Officer.
  • Compliance with the various Santos Corporate governance policies and practices.

About You
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree with an Accounting major, as well as membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, or CPA Australia, or equivalent. To be successful in this role, you must be able to demonstrate the following skills/experience:

  • Sound technical knowledge of Corporation Law, Accounting Standards and other relevant statutory reporting requirements. Proven experience in researching Accounting Pronouncements – should be able to demonstrate the ability to assess the impact of accounting pronouncements
  • Thorough understanding of commercial arrangements generally, with specific experience to the Oil and Gas industry being highly regarded.
  • Significant professional experience in Accounting with a Chartered Accounting firm or accounting section of a large corporate organisation.
