Job description

The Department of Communities brings together the services and functions of disability services, child protection and family support, housing, community initiatives and regional services reform.

The Opportunities

The Communities' Data Office is dedicated to identifying opportunities to use data to inform decision-making based on evidence. Our team consists of highly skilled, multidisciplinary individuals who  lead various data projects, initiatives, services, or systems to support the Department's goals. These positions require working collaboratively and flexibly, being culturally responsive, and embodying the Department's values.

Our branch provides advice and guidance on the ethical management of Communities' data and knowledge assets. We develop and implement strategies for data governance, analytics, modelling, performance reporting (including annual reporting and key performance indicators), and monitoring and evaluating projects, programs, and initiatives. Additionally, we offer guidance on the compliant use of Communities' data.

Our focus is on fostering a data-driven culture and regularly collaborating within the department and with external stakeholders.

Assistant Advisor – Level 4

As an Assistant Advisor you will:

  • Assist in the development and the coordination of a range of data projects, initiatives, services or systems in support of the Department’s outcomes.
  • Consolidate and provide routine analysis to support advice on a range of data projects, initiatives, services or systems.
  • Apply procedures, templates and tools to coordinate the monitoring and reporting of identified risks and issues.

Advisor – Level 5

Some of the duties of an Advisor role encompass:

  • Coordinating and contributing to the development of a range of data projects, initiatives, services or systems in support of the Department’s outcomes.
  • Providing timely and accurate advice and support on data projects, initiatives, services or systems.
  • Coordinating internal and external meetings including secretariat support, preparation and distribution of agendas and meeting papers.

Senior Advisor – Level 6

A Senior Advisor undertakes duties such as:

  • Working collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to develop and contribute to the continuous improvement of agency-wide data projects, business practices, processes or systems in support of the Department’s outcomes.
  • Sustaining relationships and networks with key internal and external stakeholders to form partnerships, foster innovation and best practice and deliver outcomes.
  • Supervise team members to deliver timely and accurate advice and support on data projects, initiatives, services or systems.

Principal Advisor – Level 7

As a Principal Advisor you will lead, manager and develop a range of data projects, initiatives, Services or systems in support of the Department’s outcomes.

To achieve this you will:

  • Manage, contribute or coordinate then continuous improvement of Agency wide data projects, business practices, processes or systems in support of the Department’s outcomes.
  • Establish and sustain relationships and networks with key internal and external Stakeholders to form partnerships, foster innovation and best practice, and deliver outcomes.
  • Lead a team of specialists to deliver timely and accurate advice and support on data projects, initiatives, services or systems.
  • Oversees and leads the coordination or preparation of Reports, Briefings and advice for a range of Stakeholders including Ministers and external audiences.

Manager – Level 8

As part of the Directorate’s Senior Management Team, the position will work in a collaborative and flexible way; be culturally responsive and model the Department’s ways of working and values. This role is responsible for:

  • Developing, leading and managing a data team, to deliver a range of complex reporting projects, initiatives, services or systems to support the achievement of agency and government strategic objectives.
  • Shaping and influencing organisational transformation and the continuous improvement of the Agency’s Policies, Systems, practices and processes.
  • Driving and championing strategies to build leadership capability in the Department.
