This role sits within the CBA Retail Banking Services (RBS) Strategy function, which is accountable for defining the strategic roadmap, creating partnerships to broaden the bank’s ecosystem, and driving sustainability for the Retail Bank.
The strategy team oversees the ongoing development of the RBS’ strategy by advising and facilitating RBS leadership team discussions, preparing materials for the CBA Executive Leadership Team and the Board, and by collaborating on projects with leaders across the Retail Bank and the Group.
The team is responsible for driving the Environmental & Social (E&S) strategy within RBS. As the largest retail bank in the country, we have a responsibility to meet the current needs of our customers and the community while operating sustainably for future generations. We help customers understand and reduce their environmental footprint and save on everyday home energy, transport and living costs through our sustainable product offerings and partnerships.
Do work that matters:
The Manager role will report directly to the Executive Manager for RBS Environment and Social Strategy. The successful candidate will contribute to the E&S Strategy for RBS; informing and driving new initiatives that reduce emissions and environmental impact, increase resilience to climate events and have a positive social impact that benefits customers, the bank and other stakeholders. The role will work with a broad range of teams, bringing all RBS sustainability initiatives together into a clearly communicated strategy.
The role will facilitate ongoing governance of RBS E&S initiatives, tracking performance, communicating progress to senior leaders and resolving or escalating blockers/challenges. The role also includes driving sustainability initiatives within RBS (e.g. developing products, customer engagement, digital capabilities, partnerships and enhancing internal capabilities).
Key responsibilities include:
Developing the E&S Strategy to inform the forward looking roadmap of initiatives for RBS
Working closely with other strategy, business development, product, and delivery teams across Group and RBS to ensure there is alignment to the E&S strategy & policies
Engaging other teams across Retail and the Group to keep abreast of their strategic agenda and be aware of interdependencies
Taking ownership of work streams/ projects end to end, and independently manage deliverables
Identifying roadblocks or dependencies, which could impact specific work stream / projects and resolve/ escalate to your manager as required
Managing E&S governance, collating updates from stakeholder teams, preparing regular progress reporting and facilitating leadership update discussions.
Driving sustainability thought leadership as a sustainability subject matter expert
Engaging with third party organisations and industry bodies on E&S strategy
Develop the internal E&S capabilities of RBS staff through enabling staff education and engagement
Establish and improve RBS processes to better manage risk associated with E&S topics
Contribute content and information to the CBA Climate Report
Working closely with risk management and compliance teams across RBS and Group to ensure relevant risk frameworks are applied
Analysing information and presenting it clearly and concisely for stakeholders to understand and make informed decisions
Contributing to formal papers for both the CBA Board and Retail Leadership Team, including regular E&S strategy progress reporting
We’re interested in hearing from people who have:
A passion for sustainability and experience or expertise in sustainability, climate science, social impact.
Consulting experience, Strategy experience or experience in a Retail Banking/Financial Services firm
Ability to project manage, work independently and manage a variety of stakeholders, both upwards and downwards
Excellent strategic thinking skills, including a structured approach to problem solving
