PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
This position is responsible for leading the work of the RSAS team to ensure effective and efficient service delivery in accordance with RSAS Grants Schedule, Operational Framework and Attendance Activity Plan and facilitate communication and collaboration between all key stakeholders.
The position reports to the Manager Community Services
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Accountabilities
- Work closely and build partnerships with parents, schools and communities to identify workable solutions and to encourage more kids to go to school each and every day.
- Lead the development and delivery on the Attendance Activity Plan and other Australian Government RSAS strategies and frameworks.
- Lead, motivate, coach and mentor team members as necessary and ensure they understand their contractual obligations through the provision of training and development opportunities.
- Identify potential candidates suitable for employment in the RSAS program and assist their progress to become job ready.
- Using best possible local arrangements, organise and support governance committee meetings of key community stakeholders to develop and agree on joined-up approaches to support improved rates of attendance and enrolment.
- Collaborate respectfully with elders, traditional owners and influential community members to develop targeted and sustainable approaches to minimise the impact of non-school obligations.
- Ensure the achievement of established benchmarks and performance expectations and perform duties and responsibilities in a manner that reflects and responds to continuous improvement principles.
- Identify barriers towards the program and broker sustainable solutions for the school, families and children.
- Achieve RSAS financial targets through the effective management of staffing, resources and efficient administration.
- Ensure all activities are compliant with requirements of the WHS legislation and regulations.
- Any other duties, within your capabilities, as directed by your supervisor.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential:
- Demonstrated success in delivering government programs with relevant qualifications and/or significant demonstrated experience in a similar role.
- Proven experience to work effectively in culturally diverse teams and in cross-cultural contexts, preferably within the social, political and cultural environments of Australian Indigenous communities.
- Strong case management and coordination of families and students skills and ability to deal with complex social issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, advocacy, conflict resolution, assessment and observation skills and the ability to rapidly create rapport with diverse groups of peoples.
- Well-developed leadership and management, conceptual, analytical, problem solving, financial and report writing skills.
- Experience managing competing deadlines with the capacity to balance relationships while staying within the operational guidelines developed by government.
- Comprehensive knowledge and compliance of contractual obligations and meeting different legislative requirements under the Australian and Territory Governments.
- Strong mentoring skills and extensive experience in building, managing and motivating teams.
- Applied knowledge in continuous quality improvement of systems and databases.
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Current Drivers Licence, Ochre Card and Police Clearance Certificate
Desirable:
- Experience living and working in remote communities
- Experience and/or knowledge of Aboriginal culture and communities and how they operate.
- Experience working for a community development or not-for-profit organisation.
Remuneration:
Bawinanga is offering an attractive remuneration package to the right person.
- Base salary: $85,797.92 per annum
- Plus 12% superannuation.
- Salary packaging available
- 6 weeks Annual Leave.
- 17.5% Annual Leave loading.
- 10 days Personal Leave.
