We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced leader to join our Senior Leadership Group as the Manager Risk and Governance. The Manager Risk and Governance plays a pivotal role in enabling a strong compliance culture within the organisation by leading a department of risk, legal and Governance professionals to provide outstanding advice and service. This position is a trusted senior advisor the Executive and elected Council on risk, governance and legal matters.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and develop Council's Risk and Governance department, as a key member of Council's Senior Leadership Group.
- Lead the provision of high-quality governance and secretariat support for the elected Council.
- Oversee expert advice across a range legal and Governance matters relating to Council functions and activities, instructing external counsel where necessary.
- Oversee expert advice on contracts and procurement.
- Oversee the management of Council's property portfolio.
- Develop, strengthen and implement the framework and strategic approach to mitigate and manage organisational risks effectively.
- Manage Council's governance and legislative compliance frameworks practices, principles, procedures, and policies.
You bring a demonstrated ability to influence and capacity for collaboration across all levels of the organisation. You have a strong commitment to customer service, and a desire to be a true partner to the business through the provision of high quality and pragmatic advice and expertise. You will have a detailed understanding of the local government sector and demonstrated experience working within complex regulatory frameworks.
The following is also required:
- Tertiary qualifications in Law, Business, Management and/or a relevant field, coupled with demonstrated senior leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience in leading, motivating and developing individuals and teams to deliver high quality and responsive outcomes to the business.
- Sound understanding of and demonstrated experience in applying relevant legislation and good governance and risk management practices in a complex organisation.
This position is subject to satisfactory Police Check, Employee Working with Children Check, and proof of two COVID-19 vaccinations or authorised medical exemption (in accordance with Council's COVID-19 Protective Behaviours Policy) prior to commencement.
