South of Perth Yacht Club (SOPYC) is a premier sailing club in Western Australia, boasting over 2,200 active members on a prime location in Applecross. With unbeatable views of the city from across the river it’s no wonder we are a popular location for hosting on-water events.
SOPYC On-Water Group (OWG) now seeks an experienced Sailing Manager to help organise and manage all aspects of the Club's busy racing calendar and training centre. This role will include overseeing sailing and power yacht events and operations in addition to supervising the Club's Sailing Training Academy.
The Sailing Manager will report directly to the General Manager on a daily basis, co-ordinate with Club Race Organising Committees when required, and deliver the objectives set by the Club's OWG Committee.
The Sailing Manager has three direct reports, including the Sailing Administrator, Sailing Academy Administrator, and Senior Coach.
The Sailing Manager's core duties will include:
- Oversight of all club on-water events and activities including associated staff and volunteers.
- Oversight of the Club's Sailing Training Academy activities including associated staff and volunteers.
- Attend committee meetings as and when required.
- Management and marketing of on-water events and training courses.
- Attract and retain new Sailing Training Academy clients including individuals, schools, universities, and community groups.
- Attract and retain sponsors to help financially support the Club's on-water activities, training centre, and individual club sailors.
- Promote sailing and training activities across all Sections of the Club with the objective of increasing member satisfaction, participation, and ultimately club membership.
- Manage and support volunteers, including co-ordination and training to ensure the efficient provision of on-water and associated services.
- Manage and administer the financial performance of the OWG, on-warter events, and Sailing Training Academy.
- Comply with all club policies, the Club's Strategic Plan, relevant legislation and carrying out all other reasonable tasks as requested by the General Manager, Race Organising Committees, and the OWG Committee.
The essential skills and experience of the Sailing Manager will include:
- An understanding of management principles in relation to the on-water activities of an active yacht club.
- Previous race and regatta management experience and record keeping in a fast-paced environment.
- A working knowledge of the local, national, and international sailing industry and race practices and procedures.
- Ability to operate under pressure due to time constraints.
- Exceptional time management, organisation, and administration skills.
- Computer and IT skills.

This is a full time, 38 hour per week, role. The successful candidate will be required to work 5 days per week which will include one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday).
