The CommSec Data and Insights Centre of Excellence (COE) is a central Data and Analytics function under the Pace model that supports the delivery of Data and Analytics offerings and services at Pace. The COE’s mission is to provide trusted data, capabilities and actionable insights in partnership with our stakeholders to drive customer experience, empower decision making and safeguard our data. ​
The Insights and Decision Science Chapter within the COE is responsible for CommSec’s Insights and Analytics functions. The team supports the strategic decision-making process of the business by way of regular reporting, campaign marketing, insights and data science models. We are also responsible for providing integrated online and offline behavioural insights, building analytics frameworks that help assess and drive customer engagement and building advanced analytics solutions and tools to help CommSec optimise its resources, improve its processes and minimise risk.
The Manager – Strategic Insights, is one of two data scientists responsible for advanced modelling and analysis to support business and operational teams’ deep dives, automated data models and insights. This role is also responsible for championing artificial intelligence initiatives within the team whilst supporting data driven decision making. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in data science, a passion for AI, and the ability to mentor and train others in order to help grow the data science capability within the organization. Under the PACE model, this role will be in the Insights & Analytics Squad within the Digital & Customer Crew.
As Manager – Strategic Insights, you will be using your advanced modelling, data science and analytics skills to leverage the data warehouse and perform detailed analysis using CommSec and Group data and providing the business with the data and insights.
Key responsibilities
Gain a deep understanding of CommSec data and systems and perform advanced analytics and modelling in order to conduct exploratory data analysis, develop and implement machine learning models and address business questions.
Work closely with product and business teams to gather requirements, provide guidance on modelling inputs that can meet their needs and develop machine learning models using CommSec and Group data in order to provide insights on customer, product and strategic initiatives.
Effectively communicate complex data science concepts and insights to non-technical stakeholders and build on existing models with the aim to continually iterate and improve existing data science efforts.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define and prioritize AI initiatives aligned with the CommSec vision and assist in the development and execution of AI roadmap.
Provide training sessions and workshops to educate team members on data science concepts, tools and best practices and build a collaborative knowledge-sharing environment to enhance overall data science capabilities.
Assist with the broader insights and analysis pipeline including but not limited to monitoring continuous product performance, pricing, and reviews by providing data analysis, insights, and reporting across the CommSec portfolio.

As a self-starter with good organisational skills and excellent communication skills, some of the key traits/experience we are after are as follows:
Demonstrated experience in the financial services industry; experience in the stockbroking industry is an advantage.
Extensive experience in developing and deploying machine learning models as well as feature engineering, model evaluation and optimisation for various business applications.
Strong proficiency in hypothesis testing, experimental design, statistical analysis as well as advanced knowledge of SQL, Python and R. Experience working with bid data technologies such as Apache Spark or Hadoop is a plus.
Advanced data modelling experience and skills in Microsoft SQL Server and/or Teradata
Significant data, information management and analytics experience
Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and proficiency in visualising and presenting data and insights to stakeholders
Be commercially astute, with strong analytical skills, attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work with large and complex data sets.
Demonstrated delivery experience as performing analytical work in high complexity environment.
Sound level of proficiency in key capabilities – IT SDLC processes, Agile delivery, written documentation/specification skills
Influencing and consulting skills - the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
