About us
Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system.
The organisation will drive delivery of world-class pumped hydro assets to provide the long-term storage and reliability needed to power Queensland’s clean energy future. The organisation will play a critical role in assisting the Queensland Government to meet its renewable energy targets of 70% renewables by 2032, 80% by 2035 and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in the Australian economy to a decarbonised energy system.
The Strategic objectives of Queensland Hydro are linked to the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan (QEJP).
Purpose
The Manager, Strategic Partnerships is an integral part of the Development Team, working directly under the Head of Strategy and Planning to realise Queensland Hydro's long-term objectives and operational goals. This key leadership role will play a pivotal role in driving the organization's growth and impact by cultivating and managing high-level partnerships with key organisations in Queensland that are critical to the success of our projects.
This position plays a crucial role in enabling Queensland Hydro to reach vital milestones related to project approval, construction, and the eventual ownership and operation of the Borumba PHES scheme. It will involve senior interactions with various stakeholders within the business, and also externally.
The Manager, Strategic Partnerships is expected to be a dynamic and resilient individual with excellent commercial insight, robust analytical abilities with excellent Queensland Government and Queensland water and/or energy industry networks. Equally important are exceptional communication skills and a collaborative spirit. Success in this role relies on the ability to manage relationships and identifying suitable solutions to complex, strategically important challenges.
Please note that this role is a 12-month fixed term contract.
The role
Key accountabilities in this role, include the following:
- Accountability for ensuring Queensland Hydro’s engagement with key industry partners, delivers to the organisation’s requirements.
- Designing, implementing and monitoring the effectiveness of a strategic engagement framework with key industry partners.
- Monitoring the risks and opportunities of key industry partners engagement as they relate to the achievement of the organisation’s objectives.
- Identifying, initiating, and nurturing Strategic Partnerships that align with the organisation's goals and mission.
- Engaging in business analysis to inform strategic decision-making and enhancing wider stakeholder relationships.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop comprehensive partnership strategies.
- Developing and executing engagement plans to enhance collaboration and mutual benefit.
- Contributing to the development of the organisation's overall strategic plan, providing insights and recommendations on partnership risks and opportunities.
- Aligning partnership strategies with broader organisational goals and objectives.
- Interacting with senior levels of Queensland Hydro, Queensland Government and potentially other key industry partners.
- Supporting the preparation of briefings for senior leadership, including the Head of Strategy and Planning, Executive General Manager Development, Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Executive and the Board to keep them informed on strategic progress, risks, and opportunities.
About you
To be successful in this position, you will possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in either Business, Strategy, Management, Science, Engineering or a related field.
- Post-graduate level qualifications in business administration, organisational strategy, or another relevant area are desirable. Candidates with lesser qualifications must demonstrate significant applied experience in a similar position.
- A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a strategic role is required, preferably within the water or energy industry in Queensland.
- Previous experience working for a large infrastructure asset developer and owner, ideally within the water or energy industries.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, multi-dimensional stakeholder engagement (community, market and political) at a regional, state and national level.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
