There are exciting senior roles available in the Strategy, Policy and Planning Directorate (SPP), with opportunities to be a part of teams working on large, strategic, and system-wide health reform programs.
This is a recruitment pool for permanent and fixed term, full time and part time opportunities with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency, as they arise over the life of the pool. The pool may be used to fill roles for the

  • Sustainable Health Implementation Support Unit
  • System Policy, Planning and Risk Unit; and/or
  • Health Navigator and Child Safeguarding Programs (Child Safeguarding).
Successful applicants may be appointed to roles across SPP.
There is a current 12 month vacancy in the Sustainable Health Implementation Support Unit, and fixed term vacancies in Child Safeguarding, with potential opportunities in the Strategy Policy Planning and Risk portfolio.
Position Profile:
The SPP Directorate is looking for talented and enthusiastic individuals to join the SPP management team. Managers in SPP lead business functions and teams, provide advice to Health Executive, and are responsible for managing projects, administrative and financial priorities.
Managers within the SPP Directorate lead project development and implementation across a range of health reform, strategic planning and system-wide projects. We are looking for driven individuals who are interested in driving transformational change across the WA health sector.

Sustainable Health Implementation Support Unit
The Sustainable Health Implementation Unit (SHISU) provides supports a range of reform initiatives across the WA health system. The team focussed on supporting delivery of the 30 Recommendations of the Sustainable Health Review (SHR) , and monitoring WA State Health Election Commitments and implementation of Independent Review of WA Health System Governance Report Recommendations. The SHISU are passionate about delivery of patient-centred, high quality and financially sustainable healthcare, and seek to drive a cultural shift to focus on prevention, equity and care closer to home, supported by a modern healthcare system.
Child Safeguarding
The Child Safeguarding team (CST) works to strengthen and embed a system-wide approach to safeguarding children across WA Health. The CST is leading strategic social policy reform and program design to enable system-wide change for vulnerable children, young people, carers and families. The CST are focussed on delivering a range of programs spanning implementation of Recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutionalised Child Sexual Abuse; establishment and management of interagency collaboration; design, delivery and evaluation of safe and appropriate services, including the Health Navigator Pilot Program; and managing robust program and systemwide governance.
Note: The Child Safeguarding Program encompasses bodies of work required to implement key recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. Officers appointed from this pool to vacancies in this Child Safeguarding team of SPP will be exposed to sensitive information.
System Policy Planning and Risk
The System Policy, Planning and Risk (SPPR) team is responsible for leading and coordinating systemwide planning and risk for the WA Health system. SPPR lead the development of the systemwide State Health Plan, and building a systemwide risk and assurance function for WA Health.

  • Extensive leadership experience and ability to lead and empower a team.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder engagement and communications skills, including working in partnership across agencies/sectors to deliver a common goal.
  • Ability to provide strategic and influential advice to facilitate decision making and convert strategy into practice.
  • Highly developed project management skills including expertise in developing, managing, and evaluating projects.
