About us Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate, and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system. We are playing a critical role in helping to meet the Queensland Government’s renewable energy targets and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in our economy to a decarbonised energy system. We are seeking a Manager, Water Planning & Approvals to join the team at Queensland Hydro as we continue to strive for excellence in engineering, environmental and social outcomes developing pumped hydro assets that Queenslanders are proud to own. About the role Reporting to the Manager, Water Planning & Hydrology, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in assisting with the planning, development and delivery of infrastructure and initiatives supporting the delivery of the Borumba and Pioneer-Burdekin Pumped Hydro Projects and expectations of the community and stakeholders. Key Accountabilities Responsible for leading the management of these issue to underpin the successful operations of Queensland Hydro’s assets. Lead the development of all water sector approvals required to construct and operate. Queensland Hydro PHES projects, this includes but not limited to, Compliance with relevant Water plans and support instruments, Resource Operation licenses Operating manuals Responsible in ensuring a consistent approach is adopted across all projects that allows Queensland Hydro access to water resources sufficient to sustain reliable operation of the assets. Supporting the development of the Environmental Impact Statement, demonstrating how water sector impacts will be managed. Working closely with the project teams and enabling corporate functions to ensure a collaborative and comprehensive approach is adopted to managing issues relating to water. Day-to-day contact for DRDMW and other government agencies re. water approvals. Procure and manage key service providers engaged to support the successful delivery of water sector approvals. Attend Stakeholder Reference Group meetings to understand and address issues and opportunities raised by the community in terms of water sector approvals. Support the preparation of project and governance reports, including for the Chief Executive, Project Steering Committee and Board briefings. About you If you are excited to play a key role in Queensland’s renewable energy future and you have the following attributes, we encourage you to apply. Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as engineering, science or similar. Significant experience in the water industry, preferably in Queensland. Previous experience in hydrology, hydrologic modelling and/or water planning, will be highly regarded. Experience in water resource management in the hydropower industry, is preferable. Strong stakeholder relationship building and management skills in both public and private settings, with a mindset of achieving win-win outcomes. A sound understanding of contemporary water resource management issues, particularly in Queensland, and a sound understanding of the regulatory frameworks in place for water resource management in Queensland.
