Job description

Headquartered in Melbourne CBD, Hanwha Defence Australia was established in 2019 with an initial focus on Land Systems. The company has been selected as the contractor to supply Land 8116, and now Land 400 Phase 3, the latter of which is the Australian Army’s largest ever acquisition program to date.

The Manufacturing Engineering role provides an exciting opportunity to join one of Australia’s newest defence primes.

This role will allow the successful applicant an opportunity to get in at ground level as we begin developing our manufacturing and production processes at our brand new H-ACE facility (Hanwha Armoured Centre of Excellence) facility in Avalon. 

Primary Duties:

  • Develop Industrial and Manufacturing engineering processes, procedures, and work standards for HDA
  • Create shop floor layout and cell designs using Lean Manufacturing Fundamentals  
  • Specification, delivery and commissioning of new machinery and equipment
  • Deliver innovative and robust solutions to production and process issues providing leadership, technical support and training as required
  • Design fixtures and tooling for assembly tasks
  • Support the development of the manufacturing process for HDA
  • Develop the Manufacturing foundation for the H-ACE
  • Technical transfer and localisation support for existing manufacturing equipment and documentation from Hanwha Defence Korea
  • Generating and modifying existing Hanwha production documentation
  • Create new production documentation as required
  • Where applicable implement FMEAs, (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) or equivalent risk-based approach methodologies when implementing new designs and equipment
  • Keep up with current and developing engineering trends
  • Produce reports and presentations that support data driven decision making.
  • Lead various cross functional and external stakeholder meetings with clear actions and accountabilities as an outcome
  • Champion a positive, “Can do” team approach to tasks, whatever the challenge, to support the company’s long term growth and transformation plans, while delivering- short term milestones, required by our customers.
  • Work within the ERP / MRP system to develop manufacturing BOMs that drive downstream activities associated with production orders and routings.

Skills and Key Attributes:

  • Works Cooperatively with teams and individuals
  • Clear understanding of delivering new equipment, tooling or processes from initial engineering specification, through to successful and safe production handover.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of production and production systems
  • Understanding of production processes
  • Engineering knowledge of mechanical design and associated Australian design standards, relating to safety of design, design of controls etc.
  • Collaborative relationship with business partners
  • Writing analytical reports, if necessary, with clear outcomes and recommendations
  • Familiar with 2D and 3D CAD Software Packages
  • Proven ability to introduce LEAN techniques
  • Appreciation of Industry 4.0 and digitisation in modern manufacturing

Qualifications

  • Degree qualification in relevant field, preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience
  • Experience in Defence sector preferred but not essential
  • A strong communicator both verbally and written with excellent, computer literacy and time management skills
  • Ability to utilise and interrogate engineering drawings, both 2D and 3D
  • Working knowledge of MRP and planning requirements in production facilities
