Austral Fisheries is one of Australia’s largest integrated commercial fishing companies, with vessels operating in Australia’s sub-Antarctic Territories, The Northern Prawn Fishery and the Timor Reef Fishery.
Austral currently have an exciting, yet challenging, opportunity for Marine Engineers(MED 2 or higher) to join our Northern Prawn Fishery team for the 2023 Tiger Prawn Season, commencing mid-July 2024.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Engineer will control the operation and maintenance of the vessels plant & equipment, transfer of water & Fuel. Also, assist with day-to-day catch. This includes:
- Product and refrigeration temperature monitoring is conducted and recorded in accordance with the Temperature Control Procedure
- Temperature probes and freezer gauges are checked for accuracy on a seasonal basis in accordance with the Calibration Procedure
- Safe storage and use of cleaning chemicals, gases, oils and greases used in the engine room and their safe disposal
- Maintenance of equipment including hydraulics
- Maintaining potable water supply
- Have a working knowledge of the relevant MSDS for any substance used in and around the vessel
- Ensuring all spaces including deck and engine room are cleaned thoroughly following all maintenance and repair work and maintained as such at all other times.
Essential
- Commercial fishing experience
- MEDII (or higher) Qualification with refrigeration endorsement
Desirable but not essential
- Experience, specifically, with the Northern Prawn Fishery
- Suitable trade background
- Diesel Mechanic, Diesel Fitter, Motor Mechanic
- Electrical Fitter and/ or Refrigeration Mechanic
