We’re seeking a skilled and adventurous Marine Engineer to join the dynamic team aboard the STS Leeuwin II, Australia’s largest sail training vessel and Western Australia’s only tall ship. At Leeuwin, we are not just a crew; but a team of passionate individuals dedicated to maritime excellence and unforgettable experiences.
Whilst the preference is for a permanent engineering crew member, we would be pleased to hear from those who may like to try a season sailing the beautiful Western Australian coast and learning what a ‘for purpose’ organisation is all about.
At home in Fremantle Port, the ship also sails to Albany, Busselton, Bunbury, Geraldton, Monkey Mia, Exmouth and Dampier (our new home port in the north).
Position Overview:
As a Marine Engineer on the Leeuwin, you’ll be at the heart of our ship’s performance, ensuring smooth sailing and top-notch functionality. From overseeing the engine room to implementing innovative solutions, you’ll play a key role in maintaining the Leeuwin’s reputation as a premier vessel.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of marine engines and systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues in a timely and efficient manner.
- Collaborate with the broader crew and shore team to ensure seamless operations during voyages.
- Implement and adhere to safety protocols, keeping crew and vessel secure.

Qualifications:
- MED2 (minimum)
- AMSA Certificate of Medical Fitness
- Certificate of Safety Training
- First Aid
- Working with Children
