The Role:

It's an exciting time to be joining Navantia Australia, one of Australia's leading companies in the Maritime Sustainment industry.

Navantia Australia currently has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the team out of its Garden Island, Sydney office. The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support to the AOR Enterprise covering technical investigations, problem resolution, engineering change development and general support to the installation and commissioning of mechanical systems including:

• Ship Propulsion Plant and support systems – Fuel, Oil, Water & Air

• Auxiliary Systems – Pumps, Piping Systems

• Heating, Ventilation, Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Systems

• Sea Water Systems – Fire main, Sprinkler and Washdown

• Fresh Water Systems, Waste Water Systems

• Aviation Fuel Systems, Compressed Air & Gas Systems and Hydraulic Systems

In this role, you will:

  • Apply Mechanical Engineering competence based on relevant experience and knowledge to the delivery of engineering support services to the Enterprise for the AOR Ships.
  • Conduct technical investigations, including triage of technical issues.
  • Undertake engineering change projects including planning and implementation.
  • Provide leadership, training and support to the wider Mechanical Engineering team including coordinating daily working activities.
  • Provide engineering support to the maintenance and supply teams.
  • Work collaboratively with the Configuration Management and ILS Teams to maintain the integrity of ship configuration data.
  • Conduct Technical Risk Assessments and assist in maintaining the AOR Technical Risk Register.
  • Conduct System Safety engineering activities.
  • Undertake System Pre Availability and Post Availability V&V activities and provide reports.
  • Engage in field work to support engineering tasks as required.
  • Support Asset Management requirements including Life Cycle Cost investigations, Reliability activities and the Lifecycle Optimisation Cell.
  • Manage and coordinate the test and evaluation processes related to platform systems.

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience as a professional engineer.
  • Proven engineering skills and experience.
  • Experience in conducting engineering investigations, analysis and writing reports.
  • Experience working with technical regulations (Classification Society and IMO requirements)
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, produce reports and operate with an eye for detail.
  • Good communication and team skills with a dedicated approach to meeting customer requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high pressure environment.
  • Ability to manage, prioritise and complete multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Australian Citizenship holding or eligible for an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Defence Security Clearance.
