About the role
This position reports directly to the Head of Sustaining Engineering (HoS) at TRITIUM PTY LTD and is based at Murarrie, Brisbane. The Mechanical Engineer’s fundamental remit is the responsibility to deliver full life cycle Mechanical Engineering solutions, including (but not limited to), the design, development and verification of products, tools and equipment related to:
- Bracketry, bus bars, shrouds etc. + Tooling & Jigs
- Cooling Systems (both liquid & air)
- Exterior Panels and Trim
- Body Structure / Chassis
- Charge Cable / Cable Management Systems
- Product Compliance, Verification & Validation Testing
- Packaging Accessories and installation Kits
- Spare Parts
- Field Servicing & Retrofitting
- Following DFM/DFA principles, Design and develop mechanical components, sub- assemblies, assemblies, tools, equipment, and systems, throughout the full product development lifecycle – concept, validation via virtual methods, prototype building and validation through to full production and servicing.
- Conduct research, design, stress calculations (via hand calculations and/or FEA),[BK2] and validation testing of mechanical systems and components to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical support to other functional departments, such as product development/management, production, quality, customer support, field services/spare parts, and supply chain, to:implement new products, new product features in alignment with customer needs, determine the feasibility of alternative parts for clear to build targets, manage/maintain spare parts BoMs and field service procedures to ensure high charger uptime performance, ensure appropriate root cause analysis to address quality issues and increase first pass yield performance, and Improve production processes and component design and increase throughput performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical/electronic engineers, software engineers, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, and industrial designers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems.
- Participate in product design reviews and provide recommendations for product enhancements and cost reduction initiatives.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including engineering drawings, specifications, and testing procedures.
- Conduct DFMEAs and follow up on recommended actions.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies related to electric vehicle charging systems.
- Ensure that all designs meet applicable safety standards and are compliant with relevant codes and regulations.
- Adhere to the Tritium WHS policy and procedures
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Graduate to up to 4 years of experience in mechanical design and engineering.
- Experience with 3D parametric modeling software, (proficiency in SolidWorks is desirable).
- Experience in PLM and related tools (proficiency in Windchill is desirable).
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with prototype building.
- Demonstrated experience in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
- Demonstrated knowledge/familiarity of Drafting Standards, e.g., AS 1100.
- Experience in the design of Jigs/Fixtures and Tooling to ensure manufacturability.
- Experience in the application of Design for Assembly / Design for Manufacturing principles.
- Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and product design principles.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards for electric vehicle charging systems, such as SAE J1772 and UL 2202 (desirable).
- Experienced in Lean / Lean Six Sigma frameworks, tools, and principles (desirable).
- Experience in an Automotive or High Technology Manufacturing environment would be of interest.
- Proven accuracy and attention to detail.
- Enthusiasm and highly motivated.
- Ability to work under pressure and time constraints.
- On occasion the ability to travel where required to facilitate the outcomes required in this position.
