The Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) is a commercial Statutory Authority responsible to the Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing and Minister for Water.
GAWB’s purpose is to supply water in bulk to major consumers in the Gladstone Region. Those consumers comprise major industries, power generating organisations, and the Gladstone Regional Council.
GAWB manages a variety of assets ranging from major water storage through to pump stations, pipelines, storage tanks and water treatment plants and takes measures to protect the quantity and quality of present and future water supplies and provides, operates, and maintains recreational facilities and fish fingerling production facilities and stocking programs.
About the Role
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Fitter – Mechanical will be responsible for technical disciplined tasks focused on the installation, maintenance and repair of assets and equipment to ensure the ongoing reliability and functionality of GAWB infrastructure.
This is an opportunity to join a leading local organisation in a full-time role on a 9 day fortnight.
About you
As a fully qualified Mechanical Fitter, this role plays a key role in planned and corrective maintenance of mechanical equipment relevant to water storage, reservoirs, water transfer pumping and pipeline networks. You will be required to organise, monitor, control and prioritise individual workloads in conjunction with supervisors.
The successful applicant will be required to execute work orders and update work order history for maintenance equipment within the computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) along with develop technical reports and conduct condition-based assessments. You will have a thorough commitment to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards with the ability to develop safe work documentation, including safe work method statements.
You may be required to participate in on-call roster and emergency response callout to afterhours plant and equipment failures.
With excellent communication skills, you will work as part of a small team and develop and maintain good working relationships. The successful applicant will provide guidance and assistance to lead and mentor others, both within and external to the team and be willing to participate in after hour emergency call outs.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated individual who possesses the following qualifications, experience and skills:
Essential:
- Trade qualified Mechanical Fitter
- Current valid “C” class driver's license
- High Risk License – Forklift, Confined Space Entry and Gantry Crane Certification, and MR Truck license will be well regarded
- Qld construction blue / white card (or ability to complete prior to commencement)
Experience in:
- Operational knowledge of civil and mechanical control of large pumps, pipelines and reservoirs
- Water industry experience including working knowledge of water and wastewater treatment plants and water quality dosing and monitoring skills
- Experience in basic Manufacturing and Fabrication tasks, e.g. minor construction, welding.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite. (Word, Excel, Outlook) Office 365, SharePoint.
