The Southern Seawater Alliance (SSWA) operates and maintains the Southern Seawater Desalination Plant (SSDP) located 130km south of Perth, between Binningup and Myalup beaches. This award-winning facility produces up to 100GL of drinking water per annum, representing over 30% of Perth’s demand. What the role will involve:
Responsible for undertaking predictive, preventative and corrective maintenance and repairs to fixed and/or mobile plant and equipment in a safe and efficient manner
Essential Requirements & Responsibilities:
- Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by reporting and acting on all hazards, keeping the plant in a clean and tidy condition and supporting all safety initiatives
- Inspection of work area and plant for hazards, damage and defects
- Preparation and examination of work orders, drawings and specifications to determine work methods, sequence of activities or manufacture of components
- Establish materials and parts requirements, order and receive materials and parts and complete all required record keeping
- Diagnosis of faults or breakdowns
- Daily lubrication checks and vibration analysis and reporting
- Undertaking repairs or component change outs as required
- Cleaning and maintenance of tools, equipment and the work area
- Oversee contractor mechanical maintenance activities
- Contribute to planning for shutdowns
- Training of other employees
- Provide specialist advice and maintenance on rotating machines, machine alignments, air compressors, hydraulic & pneumatic equipment and mechanical control instruments.
- On call work and occasional shift work
- Loading and unloading of chemicals
- Membrane loading, integrity and conductivity testing
- Any other duties as reasonably requested
Skills and Experience:
- Relevant Trade Certificate
- Minimum of five (5) years post trade qualification experience in maintaining fixed plant within water industry or similar experience preferred
- Exposure to computerised maintenance systems and contemporary maintenance principles
- Understanding of safety requirements in an operating plant including hazard identification and basic risk assessment
- Reporting to the Mechanical Co-Ordinator, you must have a flexible approach and be committed to the overall goals of minimizing energy use while achieving water production targets. Team focus is essential. Applicants must reside within a safe working distance to the Plant.
