Position: Media Adviser – Office of the Leader of the Opposition (LOOP)

Salary: Level 4.3 Public Sector CSA Agreement ($92,057)

Contract: Full Time - Term of Government (TOG)

Reporting

  • Reports to Senior Media Adviser.

Role:

In the Leader of the Opposition’s office, our team engage with the State’s media to ensure the issues most important to West Australian’s are front and centre.

Working with the Senior Media Adviser, our Media Adviser will assist the LOOP team to develop and implement state-wide, regional, and targeted media and digital media strategies for the Leader of the Opposition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Media Strategy – Work with the Senior Media Adviser to develop and execute a media and digital media strategy for the Leader and the broader Opposition.
  • Media Response – Prepare and distribute media and content for the Leader; respond to arising media queries; aid in the preparation of media releases and talking points on key issues.
  • Digital Content and Analysis – Create engaging and compelling content for social media, websites, and other digital channels. Monitor and analyse online engagement and make recommendations for improvement. Assist with website development and maintenance as required.
  • Stakeholder engagement – Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including the EO network, community organisations and peak bodies, and incorporate their feedback into the media strategy.
  • Monitor media and identify proactive opportunities for commentary.

Additional duties - may spread across a range of portfolio areas as required:

  • Provide research and policy support.
  • Prepare briefing notes, talking points and speeches relevant to certain portfolios.
  • Accompany Leader on travel as requested.

Selection criteria:

Essential

  • Experience in media, communications, digital marketing, public relations or associated industries, website and social media management and contemporary content creation.
  • Proven experience working in and/or with media networks.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and digital analytics.
  • High level written, verbal and digital communication skills.
  • Ability to work and deliver to tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with media and stakeholders.
  • Strong research skills, including the ability to critically analyse issues and information.
  • Experience using graphic design programs, particularly Canva and Indesign.

Desirable

  • Understanding of parliamentary processes.
  • Connection to and understanding of regionally significant issues.
