CANCER COUNCIL ACT

The Cancer Council ACT (CCACT) is a non-government, not-for-profit community organisation with a strong commitment to promote a healthier community by reducing the incidence and impact of cancer in the ACT region, through community engagement, promotion of prevention and general support information and cancer research.

This role enjoys flexible working hours, one day WFH (if desired), and up to $15,900 tax-free through PBI salary sacrificing.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Media and Communications Coordinator is responsible for contributing to and executing the communications strategy, using effective and clear communications across a range of traditional and online platforms, to support the organisation’s cancer services and fundraising initiatives. 

You are responsible for the organisation’s visibility in the ACT community ensuring that branding and messages are aligned with Cancer Council brand guidelines.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Marketing and Fundraising Manager, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator will:

  • Write, create, edit, curate and publish engaging written, digital and interactive content for a range of channels including social media, website eDMs and publications.
  • Maintain relationships with local media outlets to maximise ROI on paid advertising, pursuing opportunities to partner where possible.
  • Monitor local and national media for relevant issues that may impact the organisation.
  • Assist with reactive media enquiries, producing media releases, coordinating media briefings.
  • Implement consistent messaging that reflects CCACT’s strategic plan and priorities.
  • Develop communications plans for the organisation’s key community fundraising campaigns such as Daffodil Day, Relay For Life and Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
  • Work collaboratively with the Client Services team to develop campaign and advocacy strategies that progress key strategic priorities, as well as driving increased use of Cancer Council ACT services.

SELECTION CRITERIA

To apply for this role you will need to demonstrate your ability to meet the selection criteria. The selection criteria outline the skills, experiences and behaviours that are necessary to successfully carry out the role.

Essential
  • 2 years’ experience in implementing communications strategies, including writing, editing and storytelling for different audiences and for different mediums and channels such as video, social media, websites, traditional media and print.
  • Experience writing media releases and managing relationships with media outlets
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write in different tones to suit the appropriate audience
  • Experience in the application of branding style guides and appropriate tone of voice
  • Current knowledge of the digital, social, and traditional media environment and experience in developing marketing strategies for different campaigns
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and show initiative as well as working well with others across teams.
  • Ability to work flexibly where required, including some out-of-hours work
Desirable
  • Tertiary qualifications in public relations, communications, or similar
  • Experience in running successful social media ad campaigns, with an understanding of Meta Business
  • Experience working in a charity or not-for-profit environment
