About us
headspace provides support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. The multidisciplinary team at headspace Edmondson Park work to improve health, social, vocational and educational outcomes for young people.
Grand Pacific Health is the lead agency of headspace Edmondson Park. We are a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation providing locally-tailored, high quality physical and mental health services across NSW and the ACT.
About the position
If you are passionate about Youth Mental Health and want to make a positive difference to the lives of young people and their families, we would love for you to join our headspace team as a Peer Worker.
The Peer Worker provides open, appropriate and effective support to young people and their family seeking support from headspace alongside the clinical team.
As a Peer Worker, your own lived experience of life changing mental health challenges, mental health service use, as well as periods of healing and personal recovery will be critical to support young people accessing the program with their own lived experience of the same.
Being a Peer Worker is distinguished from other members of the multidisciplinary team, by the requirement to purposefully disclose your direct lived experience openly, appropriately, and effectively to build mutual relationships with the people you support that also have a similar lived experience.
A crucial aspect of this role will be to contribute the consumer voice and advocate on their behalf to the multidisciplinary team and managers regarding both individual needs and specific program improvement initiatives. They will also support headspace with community engagement activities.
The position is part-time 3 days per week and fixed term until 30 June 2025, hours and days negotiable.
We are looking for someone with:
- Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (or commencement or a willingness to work towards qualification within first 6 months of employment).
- Direct lived experience of life changing mental health challenges, mental health service use, as well as periods of healing and personal recovery.
- Commitment to safely and purposely share lived experience to engender hope and support others on their personal recovery journey.
- Thorough understanding of the importance of personal and professional boundaries, ethical behaviour, policies, and procedures
