Melbourne Teaching Health Clinics (MTHC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Melbourne and provides world class clinical training opportunities for the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences students. About Shepparton Medical Centre
Shepparton Medical Centre (SMC) was established in 2010, the first purpose-built, multidisciplinary teaching clinic in Australia created to increase the quality and capacity of medical education in a rural setting.
Since its inception, SMC has been facilitating the wellbeing of our patients and students by focusing on patient-centred care and outstanding clinical education. We deliver approximately 40,000 services to patients each year and support the community in a number of ways including participating in Priority Primary Care Centres as well as providing allied health care and specialist care from the Centre.

You are an experienced GP, passionate about delivering patient care in regional areas and able to lead a multidisciplinary team of nurses, GPs, allied health practitioners and administrators.
You are looking to make a difference in a high profile, innovative clinic that operates a general practice as well as a Priority Primary Care Centre. You will be able to think laterally and be energised to implement change both clinically through innovative multidisciplinary team care models and operationally to set the clinic up to effectively deliver a broad range of patient services.
Not just a GP, you are able to leverage your experience to oversee the SMC clinical supervision program, deliver clinical teaching through the University Department of Rural Health and be an integral part of the education of the next generation of GPs in the University of Melbourne’s medical program.
Key Selection Criteria
- A Vocational Registered GP with current AHPRA registration.
- Demonstrated experience in medical leadership within a medical practice or acute health service.
- Extensive leadership background with the ability to foster connection, mentor and manage diverse teams.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and effectively represent the Shepparton Medical Centre to external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to successfully implement change to meet strategic objectives.
- Demonstrated success in establishing new clinical services or operational projects.
- Experience in the provision of general practice medical services.
- Experience in assessment and diagnosis of a wide range of health problems.
- Experience in providing clinical supervision to medical students.
- Experience in clinical practice management and service accreditation and/or registration, and the planning and delivery of health promotion programs.
- Experience in or demonstrated aptitude for contributing to the management of a medical practice in the context of staff management, support, and mentoring.
- Excellent computer skills including all MS Office products.
