Position overview:
The Medical Emergency Team (MET) works in collaboration with Intensive Care to provide a frontline Medical Emergency response to patients experiencing an acute deterioration. The unit is currently seeking applications to the MET Nursing position for a suitably qualified registered nurse to provide a frontline Medical Emergency response, work in collaboration with medical staff to stabilise and treat patients undergoing an acute deterioration and the provision of an Outreach response for patients at risk of deterioration within inpatient wards. The position will work a rotating roster of mornings, evenings, nights and weekends.
Duties:
Under limited direction of the MET Clinical Nurse Consultant you will:
- Provide high quality clinical care as a member of the Medical Emergency Team and participate in the rapid response to critically ill patients throughout the hospital
- Act as a nurse member of the ICU Outreach Team and participate in the nursing care of critically ill patients throughout the hospital
- Work with ward nursing staff to identify and manage critically ill patients to ensure optimal nursing care is provided to patients requiring critical care outreach
- Work with members of staff in ICU/ED/CCU ensuring smooth and effective transfer of patients from ward to the ICU/CCU/ED environment
- Provide nursing clinical advice, support and education to ward staff caring for critically ill patients.
- Participate in clinical research, quality and safety management and improvement initiatives and patient education activities that are relevant to critical care outreach and the Medical Emergency Team. Including data collection allowing audit and research on the effect of the critical care outreach and MET Service
- Liaise with all health care professionals, patients and members of the public in a professional manner adhering to the ACT Health Code of Conduct and the Public Sector Management Act.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

- Adaptability and flexibility to accommodate change and provide responsive services to meet clients' needs
- Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Be available for rotational shift work including weekends and night duty
- Computer literacy skills
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
