Job description

The successful candidate will apply scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate to ensure that the microbiology and molecular services meet the requirements of the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS), commensurate with level of experience.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
* Demonstrated knowledge, expertise and skill in the delivery of scientific/technical judgement within a microbiology and molecular laboratory.
* Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of a microbiology and molecular team.
* Demonstrated ability to apply established principles to a microbiology and molecular service with provision of results and clinical advice in a client focused manner.
* Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
* The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree (or equivalent) formal qualification(s) in Medical Laboratory science.
* The position advertised is shift and will be required to work days and evenings on a rotating roster over a 7 day period.
* To be eligible for permanent appointment to Pathology Queensland applicants must provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency. To be eligible for temporary appointment applicants must provide proof that they can legally work in Australia.
* We understand that some people may require adjustments to the workplace or the way the work is performed. All applicants are encouraged to advise the panel of any support or reasonable adjustments (i.e. building access, wheelchair access, interpreting services etc.) that may be required.
Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements
* It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
* Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
* Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
