The ideal candidate will possess a level of clinical interpretive skills and be a resource within the Microbiology/Molecular Diagnostic Unit (MDU), taking a role in areas within the department including the quality delivery of accurate and timely microbiological analysis, equipment maintenance and work effectively as a member to ensure service continuity to the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service.

Contribute to the provision of high quality, cost-effective pathology services to clients of the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service including Bundaberg Hospital and rural MPHS facilities.
Apply scientific knowledge, skills and experience to the Microbiology and Molecular departments in the Bundaberg Laboratory.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated expertise and ability in the performance of Microbiology/Molecular Diagnostics investigations in a clinical pathology laboratory including; reading, interpreting and reporting microscopy, culture and susceptibility testing.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical services in accordance with professional clinical standards, established principles/procedures and comprehensive operation and maintenance of analytical equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner without supervision.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of a Laboratory Information System such as AUSLAB.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and with members of staff.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to quality and service improvement activities in accordance with National Association of Testing Authority/International Standardisation Organisation (NATA/ISO) accreditation / certification.
- Awareness of procedures policies and regulations which impact on the position such as the Queensland Health Code of Conduct, Workplace Health and Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity and Anti-discrimination.
- The successful applicant must hold a Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) degree, or an equivalent qualification.
- In some circumstances and following consultation, Queensland Health staff may be required to participate in 24 hour shift, on-call or weekend roster arrangements.
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and if applicable registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
