The Opportunity
DFAT is seeking a suitably qualified Medical Practitioner to lead it small medical teams in Honiara, Solomon Islands and Dili, Timor Leste. It is an on-going position with future potential opportunities in clinics in Jakarta and Port Moresby. All applicants will be considered for merit listing for potential future vacancies over the next 12 months. The clinics provide primary care medical services to Australia’s diplomatic mission in the Asia-Pacific. The successful candidates will work closely with DFAT’s Canberra-based Medical Unit, and a Registered Nurse who will also reside in country. You will also advise the Ambassador and the Principal Medical Adviser in Canberra on local health matters.
Ongoing appointments will be expected to move between clinic locations every three to four years.

Eligibility Requirements
Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS) unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing.
The department requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 2 level clearance security clearance (or Baseline, Negative Vetting Level 1 or Positive Vetting (PV) where positions are designated as such in the DFAT Security Framework or PV organisational chart, respectively). Loss of a security clearance at any time may lead to termination of employment. Employment with the department can, however, commence on lower-level clearances or without a clearance, in some circumstances, and the department will work with you to facilitate this if you are successful.
Depending on the role into which you are placed, you may also be required to obtain and maintain a Working with Vulnerable People/Children registration (or equivalent).
