Job description
Pathology Queensland, a service of Health Support Queensland, is the oldest state-wide pathology service in Australia. Our laboratories are National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) and Royal College of Pathologists of Australia (RCPA) accredited, ISO certified, TGA licensed, and we assist in the Hospital and Health Services' ACHS accreditation process.
Provide scientific advice and provision of results to HB/MY Hospital and external clients relating to Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology, Molecular Diagnostics and Fluid Microscopy in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards.
Ensure personal development of scientific knowledge and expertise by participating in Performance and Development Plans, active learning, and professional development.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key capabilities, knowledge, and experience. Within the context of the responsibilities described above under 'your key responsibilities', the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
* Demonstrated expertise and ability to apply multidisciplinary scientific judgement in Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology, Molecular Diagnostics and Urine/Fluid Microscopy.
* Demonstrated ability to provide technical advice and provision of results to laboratory staff and Hospital and Health Service clients pertaining to Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology, Molecular Diagnostics and Urine/Fluid Microscopy.
* Demonstrated ability to provide technical services in accordance with professional clinical standards, established principles/procedures and comprehensive operation and maintenance of analytical equipment.
* Demonstrated ability to work within a team to contribute to the objectives of the laboratory.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner without supervision.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently towards logical solution of scientific and technical problems.
* Demonstrated experience in the use of a Laboratory Information System such as AUSLAB.
* Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and with members of staff.
* Ability to participate in a multi-discipline team.
* Demonstrated ability to contribute to quality and service improvement activities in accordance with National Association of Testing Authority/International Standardisation Organisation (NATA/ISO) accreditation / certification.
* Awareness of procedures policies and regulations which impact on the position such as the Queensland Health Code of Conduct, Workplace Health and Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity, and Anti-discrimination.
Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements
It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
* Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
* Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e., one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
Interstate and international healthcare workers who move to Queensland to work for Queensland Health may be eligible for a $10,000 incentive payment on commencement & another $10,000 after completion of a full 12 months of service in Queensland. -Scheme 1
