Job description
The successful candidate will exercise independent professional clinical judgement in delivering high level Cytological services (which include preparation, examination, investigation, diagnosis, and case management of fine needle aspiration and other clinical specimens) within Cytology in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards. Aditionally, you will participate in a Fine Needle Aspirate service for clients and patients locally, with the possibility of attending off-site clinics, including preparation, examination, specimen adequacy and guidance to medical staff.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
* Demonstrated high level of knowledge, expertise and skill in Cytology specimen collection and analysis.
* Demonstrated ability to provide general Cytological advice to professional and operational supervisors regarding service delivery and improvement opportunities.
* Proven experience in providing Cytological services of a complex nature, where established principles, procedures and methods require some expansion, adaptation, or modification.
* Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan and evaluate local service improvement initiatives and provide Cytology supervision to subordinate personnel when required.
* Proven ability to be a positive and contributing member of a diverse team.
* Focus upon own professional development and improvement.
Qualifications and Registrations
The successful applicant must hold:
* at least a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant scientific discipline.
* Postgraduate qualification in Cytology such as the ASC or IAC.
* Australian Drivers Licence.
Other Requirements
Applicants should note the following:
* There is an expectation that staff within the Anatomical Pathology laboratory will cross-train and provide scientific support to other sections as required.
* Staff may be required to participate in overtime, plus weekend and shift work.
* It is likely that the service will expand in future to include a broader range of cytological analyses.
* Travel between Pathology Queensland southeast Queensland laboratories may be required.
