Position Summary
The aim of this role is to provide high quality molecular pathology diagnostics, contribute to the research program of the Wilson Genomics Lymphoma Centre and other areas of molecular haematology research, participate and progress education and enhance the stature of the Institute. Additionally, this position will also integrate with the diagnostic haematopathology service as well as providing clinical liaison and support to internal and external referrers to manage issues arising from expanded molecular testing.

Skills
Essential Requirement:
- Medical Qualifications registrable by the Medical Board of Victoria
- Post graduate qualifications in internal medicine, (FRACP) and pathology or equivalent
- Higher thesis degree highly desirable
- Experience in diagnostic haematology and particularly molecular pathology
- Ability to provide leadership in a multidisciplinary team setting
- Experience in translational or basic research
Desirable Requirements:
- Appropriate clinical haematology experience, including conducting clinical research
- Experience in medical education at undergraduate and post graduate levels
- Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with medical staff and other disciplines

1. Provides high quality diagnostic and clinical patient care using an evidence based and cost effective approach
- Timely and regular reporting of assigned diagnostic haematopathology tests.
- Continuously reviews and improves quality processes and protocols.
- Attendance at and participation in laboratory and clinical meetings (where appropriate).
- Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities.
- Completes all patient related documentation according to Peter Mac requirements.
- Participates in departmental audits, internal and external quality assurance programs (where appropriate).

- Participates and contributes to clinical trials.
2. Provides Intellectual Leadership
- Collaborates and supports the Molecular Genomics program and other molecular haematology research.

- Manages research activities (if appropriate) according to relevant Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and Institute policies and procedures
- Establishes valuable internal & external collaborations.
3. Supervises and teaches scientific staff, registrars, residents, medical students, nursing and allied health staff and participates in other educational activities
- Provide support for and involvement in the department’s research projects.
- Guides registrars and scientists in the preparation of presentations and publications.
- Participates in hospital wide educational programs, including affiliated organisation’s programs.
- Participates in resident, nurse and allied health education programs.
4. Promotes the interests of the Institute
- Contributes to relevant professional organisations.
- Expertise is recognised locally and nationally.
- Publishes work in appropriate journals and publications (minimum target is 2 publications per year as major contributor).
- Contributes to the Institute’s goals by developing and achieving unit goals.
