About the Opportunity
As a Medication Assistant you will be committed to providing service excellence and responsible for the safe issuing of prescribed medications from dose administration aid (Webster pack) in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures. You are a compassionate and passionate individual with an understanding of working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. You have the highest integrity and must report non-compliance or refusal of medication promptly to the Registered Nurse. You’re a respectful and professional person who demonstrates exceptional moral values in everything that you do.
What you’ll be doing
Collaborating with the multidisciplinary health care team at the Acacia Prison you will provide and record medications which have been dispensed by a pharmacist or General Practitioner for a specific patient under the supervision of the RN in accordance with their scope of practice. You will work as part of a wider team in a busy environment where you will make a difference to those in need.
You will be responsible for maintaining all patient health records in accordance with Policy and Procedures, maintaining confidentiality, perform a range of pharmaceutical and administrative duties, attend to telephone enquiries, administration duties and phlebotomy. This is a permanent full-time position working 42 hours/week, 12 hour shifts across 7 days a fortnight starting at 6:30am. You will be required to work every second weekend.

Experiences / Qualifications
• Experience in issuing prescribed medications from dose administration aid (Webster pack) in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures.
• Experience in issuing other prescribed medications identified as a local instruction in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures.
• Skills and experience in administrative work (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.
This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment, which includes a federal police check as an essential selection component for this role.
