Job description

About CatholicCare NT and the Program

CatholicCare NT is a Catholic social service agency established in the Diocese of Darwin. We provide services throughout the NT, including service centres in Darwin, Palmerston, Malak, Tiwi Islands, Daly River, Wadeye, Jabiru, Maningrida, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, Santa Teresa, Titjikala, Finke and APY lands.

CatholicCare NT is a not-for-profit organisation, providing social services and programs to individuals, couples, families, children, groups, schools and agencies across the Northern Territory. CCNT has a dedicated portfolio for Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) encompassing primary prevention, victim-survivor support (including crisis and respite), and programs for those using violence in their relationships.

CCNT’s men’s DFV programs include a Men’s Behaviour Change Program (MBCP), Youth Behaviour Change Program (YBCP) and Court Support for men who use violence in their relationships. The primary purpose of these programs is to ensure the safety of women and children. Family members are also supported by a Women’s Safety Worker who works closely with the MBCP facilitators.

The MBCP is based in Darwin and Wadeye. The evidence-based program supports men to develop and maintain respectful attitudes and behaviours within their family and intimate partner relationships. The program is delivered in a group setting with individual case management where participants are provided with education, support, strategies, and referrals to other services. CCNT’s MBCP uses an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy/Theory framework to underpin delivery.

The YBCP is being developed for delivery on the Tiwi Islands.

The court support program collaborates with the Respondents Early Assistance Legal Service (REALS) duty lawyer provided by NTLAC. The aim is to provide an integrated holistic service, by providing dedicated men’s support workers who work with male victims and alleged male perpetrators to access appropriate support services, including parenting programs and men’s behavioural Change Programs. The Court Support Program runs in Darwin and Katherine, providing social support and referrals for men impacted by DFV in both court settings, and mental health support to men in Katherine.
