Carer Lived Experience Worker
- Bairnsdale location
Based in Gippsland, Latrobe Regional Health are looking for a Carer Lived Experience worker to join our Bairnsdale Community Mental health services on a part time ongoing basis.
As a Carer Lived Experience Worker, you will provide peer support to carers, family members, and supporters who have a relative or friend receiving care from Latrobe Regional Health Mental Health Service. You will form mutually supportive and empathetic peer relationships by appropriately and purposefully sharing your own story and understanding of the impacts of mental distress and illness on families and carers. You will use your Lived Experiences supporting someone through service use and recovery to provide emotional and practical support, making it easier to navigate the Mental Health system, and inspiring confidence, optimism, and hope in others about the journey of recovery.

We are looking for candidates with:
Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, Intentional Peer Support Training, or other peer workforce experience OR an undertraining to complete relevant education within 2 years of employment
- Demonstrated practical understanding of the issues and concerns experienced by families, carers, and supporters of people experiencing Mental Health challenges and service use
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as part of a team

Selection Criteria
Essential: Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19Essential: Lived experience of supporting and caring for someone experiencing Mental Health challenges, service use, and recovery (essential). Essential: Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with individuals and groups to build and maintain effective relationships within multidisciplinary teams (essential). Essential: Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to consult, liaise, and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
Essential: Effective time management and written communication skills. Essential: Current drivers licence
Desirable: Experience in developing and facilitating group activities
Essential: Willingness to share and draw on Lived Experience purposefully in the role to instil confidence and hope in others about the journey of recovery
Essential: Demonstrates an interest and understanding of others and ability to relate to people at all levels
Essential: Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and build trust to deal with sensitive and difficult situations in a diplomatic manner
Essential: A Mental Health qualification of Certificate IV level or above, or complete such a qualification within 2 years of your commencement of employment and / or completion of intentional peer support training
Essential: Computer literacy
Essential: Ability to establish respectful professional relationships that have clear boundaries with consumers, staff and partner organisations Essential: Strong written and verbal communication skills
