About the opportunity
We are looking for a motivated Mental Health Practitioner to join our Aboriginal Women’s Services (AWS) Team. Working closely with the Team Leader and the wider team, you will be responsible for providing appropriate interventions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and their families.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining a caseload of clients providing counselling support which may include one to one individual, outreach, and group approaches.
- Working collaboratively with clients to develop personalised goals and openly discuss how counselling interventions are intended to meet these.
- Planning, coordinating, and delivering health promotion activities or training for women in house or in the community relevant to the needs of the clients.
- Engaging in collaborative care and advocacy with internal Luma services and relevant external services, guiding and supporting clients in staying connected to services.
- Engaging openly with colleagues across the organisation to assist with advice regarding culturally sensitive service delivery and service integration across programs.
We will be looking for experience in a community-based service delivery of counselling, and case management with sound knowledge of Mental Health, alcohol and/or drug (AOD) use and family and domestic violence. Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal family structures, culture, customs, and beliefs, including an understanding of intergenerational trauma will be highly regarded.
In this role you will need demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the needs and issues relating to Aboriginal women and their families and experience in working with Aboriginal communities. A bachelor and/or master’s qualification in a relevant discipline, such as; Mental Health, AOD, social work, community services, cultural studies, family studies or related fields will be required.

This is a permanent part-time or full-time position based out of our Northbridge and Joondalup offices. Travel to other locations will be required on occasion.
