ABOUT US:
Australian Veteran Health Services is a unique, multi-disciplinary medical service designed to assist former and current Defence personnel plan their transition from military to civilian life. As a medical service that was established by Veterans for Veterans, we aim to complement established medical and ex-service organisations by assisting with DVA Claims, Permanent Impairment Assessments, Veteran Review Board (VRB) reports and ADF Transition Medicals.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Head of Wellbeing, Education and Training and based in Melbourne, as a Mental Health Social Worker, you will play a key role in ensuring the provision of quality Mental Health care to veterans in person, as well as via telehealth. Your days will be varied, with a mix of clinical work, documentation, and engagement with the community.
ABOUT YOU:
You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills and be approachable and trustworthy. High level stakeholder engagement skills are a must, as we have many moving parts in the delivery of support to the veteran community. You will demonstrate continuous learning habits and capability in peer supervision. With an eye for detail, you’ll be across the details and requirements within our context.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver evidence-based interventions and therapeutic support to the Veteran Community.
- Provide Veteran centered care focusing on maintenance of ongoing health to current and past serving members of the Australian Military
- Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as required
- Participate in team meetings and case conferences
- Collaborate within a dynamic multidisciplinary team
- Engage in professional development and learning opportunities
- Uphold the practice's reputation for excellence in veteran care
- Work with the internal teams to provide supervision where required
- Conduct assessments in support of DVA claims
Selection Criteria
- A degree in Social Work or a related field (essential)
- Valid and current professional registration to practice as a Mental Health Social Worker (essential)
- Demonstrated experience in analysis and reporting (essential)
- Capacity to work independently with minimal direction and collaboratively in a team environment (essential)
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills (essential)
- Ability to accurately assess and classify Mental Health disorders as outlined in the DSM-5

- Previous experience or a background in veteran support (desirable)
- An understanding of the unique challenges faced by Australian military veterans (desirable)

This role is predominantly a remote working position that will transition into onsite as we expand.
