About Your Role:
As a Mentor with AMS, you will provide personalised support, serving as a social role model to help individuals achieve their goals. Your role will involve mentoring participants to maintain and improve their independence through the social learning of daily living skills, recreational activities, education, and employment. You will work both independently and as part of a team, always respecting individuals' rights to freedom of expression, self-determination, and decision-making.
We are currently seeking Permanent Part-Time Mentors for positions in the Wollongong area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivering high-quality support to participants, whether in AMS-operated accommodation, in their homes, or within the community.
- Providing unconditional positive regard to all individuals.
- Acting as a social role model to help participants build daily living skills such as cleaning, cooking, meal planning, and budgeting.
- Engaging in social and recreational activities to help participants develop relationships and social networks.
- Implementing Individual Support Plans and Behaviour Support Plans.
- Demonstrating flexibility with working hours, including availability for a 24/7 rotating roster.
About You:
You are non-judgemental, empathetic, and a strong advocate for change. With qualifications and/or experience in Mental Health, Disability, Youth Work, or a related field, you understand the challenges our participants face. You are resilient and celebrate small successes, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Additionally, you possess strong interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation abilities.
