Global Met Tech Pty Ltd based in Port Kennedy is rapidly evolving as a market leader in high performance Grinding Media and Mill Components in the mining and manufacturing market sectors. We pride ourselves on exceptional customer service, and as such, we are looking for a fit and healthy, mature minded Metallurgical Technician to join our team.
We provide exceptional quality ceramic and steel grinding media products to the worlds mining and minerals industries. In order to provide the highest degree of product performance and service, Global Met Tech has developed a market leading UFG Metallurgical Laboratory. This highly equipped facility offers extensive metallurgical services to Global Met Tech’s global customer base, as well as being an integral part of research and development along with quality control processes. The significance of this facility to our business growth is continually advancing and GMT is now looking for an additional motivated team member to drive forward the growth of this facility.
As Metallurgical Technician, your primary responsibilities will be to conduct practical laboratory tests, sample homogenisation, data analysis, implement findings to real world problems/optimisation and maintain a good level of cleanliness and organisation throughout the laboratory. The laboratory tests that you will be conducting will be associated with the use of grinding media in stirred and tumbling mill mineral processing applications. These tests will be undertaken at the GMT UFG Grinding laboratory, a world leading highly equipped laboratory designed for the study of grinding media and its use in mineral processing activities.
You must have the commitment and dedication to be able to achieve high standards of work in a challenging environment, and to be responsible and reliable enough to be able to manage the necessary systems and processes. At times this will be required to be maintained without additional support from colleagues, as such a high level of independency is required.

Responsibilities & duties
To conduct practical laboratory tests, sample homogenisation, data analysis, implement findings to real world problems/optimisation and maintain a good level of cleanliness and organisation throughout the laboratory.
Involving:
- Operation and monitoring of associated milling and analytical equipment
- Handling of samples and bulk materials
- Set-up, operation, monitoring of equipment, (Ball Mill, IsaMill M4, HIG 5kW SMD PM400, Laser diffraction)
- Recording of the results of laboratory processes and data analysis
- Implementing laboratory results to solve real industrial problems and/or optimisation of industrial processes.
- Maintenance of the workplace environment, maintaining a good level of cleanliness and organisation.
- Required use and maintenance of appropriate safety equipment and adhering to safety standards.
Academic & trades qualifications
Essential qualifications:
- Tertiary qualifications in science/engineering or TAFE qualifications in sciences, preferably including mathematics.
Desirable Experience/Qualifications:
- Certificate IV in laboratory techniques
- Tertiary qualifications in Metallurgy
- Previous experience of working in a laboratory environment
- Experienced in tasks that require high attention to detail
