Reporting to the Set-Up Team Leader, you will be responsible for the preparation of samples for processing using aseptic technique, perform basic routine testing under regular and close supervision, prepare working solutions and maintaining a clean and hygienic work area.
Role:
- Prepare samples by weighing, filtering, cutting and/or blending accordance with sample/analysis requirements and preparation methods.
- Set up equipment and materials needed for analysis.
- Closely follow each preparation step with particular attention to safety and precision to minimise cross-contamination of samples.
- Perform basic testing to detect pathogens in food and water, and other analysis tests on samples in accordance with the test method to meet client requirements.
- Pipette sample solutions into tubes or plates according to the analysis process being performed, and place plates in the incubator for the specified amount of time at the required temperature to begin the growth process.
- Use aseptic technique in preparation of samples for microbiological analysis to prevent bacterial contamination.
- Collect samples for analysis and store appropriately and safely on the laboratory bench to ensure sample integrity is not compromised.
- Check work orders against submission forms (SARF) to ensure accurate and correct sample initiation, reporting errors to Sample Registration for corrective action.
- Clean and prepare glassware and other equipment for analysis use in the laboratory.
- Unpack and store consumable items and supplies and report low levels of stock to the Laboratory Manager for ordering.
- Record samples for analysis conducted off-site in the laboratory LIMS system, obtain a purchase order from Admin team and provide sample registration with the sample/s for dispatch to external laboratories.
- Clean preparation areas using appropriate cleaning agents and procedures to keep the laboratory fit for purpose.
- Dispose all hazardous waste and spent/surplus samples safely in accordance with the procedure/work instruction.
- Perform all work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner by following all OH&S policies/procedures/programs.
- Adhere to PPE requirements for conducting sample preparation activities, in addition to the minimum PPE requirements of the laboratory.
- Participate in laboratory team meetings as required.
Successful Candidate:
- Minimum Certificate II or equivalent qualification in a Laboratory or Scientific discipline (essential).
- Minimum 2 years of working in a similar laboratory environment (desirable).
- Understanding of NATA and TGA requirements, as well as working to GLP and GMP standards.
- Experience using a laboratory LIMS system.
- Quality-focused with excellent attention to detail, good communication skills and the ability to work in fast-paced team.
- Excellent analytical and organisational skills.
- An ability to effectively communicate and work in a team.
