About the Project

Kimberley Mineral Sands Pty Ltd (KMS) is a 50/50 joint venture between Sheffield Resources Limited and YGH Australia Investment Pty Ltd (Yansteel). The Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project (Thunderbird) is located mid-way between Derby and Broome, in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. 

Thunderbird is one of the largest and highest-grade zircon mineral sands deposits in the world and contains valuable heavy minerals including ilmenite, zircon, leucoxene, and rutile, which are extracted and exported via the Port of Broome.

About the Role

Residing in the West Kimberley and reporting to the Superintendent Integrated Planning, this is an exciting opportunity for a Mine Surveyor to join our growing mining company.

This role will be responsible for all site surveying requirements including survey pickups, setting out designs and survey controls to ensure production targets are met.

Site based roster: 8 days on, 6 days off (Bus In Bus Out from Broome or Derby)

Key Responsibilities

  • Setting out clearing limits
  • Compilation of data for all ground disturbances
  • Field survey compliance to design
  • Conduct and report on bulk density surveys
  • End of Month (EOM) reporting and surveys (to tie into EOM reconciliation)
  • Collect spatial surveys via aerial drones and set out spatial data with Trimble and Leica GPS
  • Implementation of evacuation permits
  • Management of topsoil, subsoil and overburden extraction
  • Stockpile management and reporting of stockpile capacities

About You
  • Tertiary qualification in Surveying or a related discipline
  • Hold a current WA C-Class driver's licence
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a Surveyor
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work within a diverse team
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and goals
  • Grade 2 Authorised Mine Surveyor Certification is preferable but is not essential
