The Role
ALS is seeking a Mineralogy Technician for our metallurgical services business in Perth WA.  Successful applicants will become part of its busy metallurgy testing laboratories that strives to exceed customer expectations by delivering quality results on time, and by maintaining strong relationships with its clients.
  
Rostered hours are day shift 7:00am to 3:00pm weekdays. The laboratory is based in Balcatta, a northern suburb of Perth. These are not FIFO mine site positions.

The day to day
Applicants will be based in the Balcatta laboratory, typical duties include:

  • Undertake sample preparation for QEMSCAN analysis (including labelling, assay submission, screening, splitting, potting, grinding/polishing, coating) and XRD analysis including splitting, manual pulverization, packing, quality control of prepared samples, registration of QEMSCAN blocks and XRD samples, consumable stock monitoring, cleaning and basic maintenance and sample returns and other tasks as assigned or required.
  • Apply time management skills so that routine laboratory activities are conducted in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintenance of high standards of cleanliness in the workplace.
  • Strict compliance to ALS procedures and policies.
The essentials
Applicants with previous experience in similar laboratory or mine site roles will be highly regarded, however, training will be provided for successful applicants with no experience.

Suitable candidates for this role must have:

  • Certificate in Laboratory techniques will be advantageous.
  • Previous laboratory experience desirable.
  • Ability to learn on the job.
  • A strong focus on safety, quality, and teamwork.
  • Strong attention to detail is a requirement.
  • Organisational skills to manage competing and changing priorities.
  • Ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner and to an agreed standard of quality, following established operating principles and procedures.
  • Optimising turnaround time for samples while ensuring the highest quality of results is achieved and maintained.
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment and carrying out quality control checks.
  • Ensuring a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness of all equipment and work areas.
