The Molecular Development scientist will fill a unique role in the personalised medicine program at Children’s Cancer Institute. This role reimagines how academic research can work with commercial partners to rapidly improve methods and devices in order to help answer the most pressing clinical problems in paediatric cancer. In this role you will have the opportunity to interact with clinicians and commercial partners.
As our Molecular Development Scientist within our Personalised Medicine team your purpose will be to:
- Work with commercial collaborators to test and develop new molecular approaches in paediatric liquid biopsy and personalised genomic medicine.
- Work with all stakeholders in the extended personalised medicine program to rapidly produce data and insight that could be used to inform clinical management for children with cancer
- Progress large scale programs aimed at bringing liquid biopsy and novel genomic medicine approaches for children with cancer closer to the clinic
- Represent the liquid biopsy and ZERO program on the national and international stage
To succeed you will have…
- The equivalent of a masters or post graduate degree in molecular biology, or a bachelor degree in science with a minimum of 3 years industry experience.
- High level molecular expertise with proven ability to operate in an independent manner.
- The ability to develop protocols from first principles.
- Be sufficiently skilled to work in an independent manner with a minimum of oversight.
- Exceptional time management skill.
- The ability to independently manage competing goals.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to guide and positively influence more junior scientists and technical staff.
- High level skills in communications and must be capable of always maintaining a professional demeanour.
- A good understanding of clinical lab standards and be able to implement these where required.
