Multiple positions available- Caseworkers and Specialist Children’s Caseworker

Jenny's Place Inc. is looking for energetic and motivated people to join our passionate team dedicated to supporting those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and survivors of domestic and family violence. 

Jenny's Place provides crisis and transitional accommodation, early intervention, outreach support and community education. These positions work within the SHS outcomes framework to provide direct services to women and children that are trauma informed, family centred and culturally appropriate 

Specialist Homelessness Service Casework roles x2 - permanent FT and PT positions available (5 and 2 day positions available) 

Children's Specialist Caseworker x1 -  up to 4 days per week available. Selection criteria further down 

SELECTION CRITERIA Caseworker:

ESSENTIAL:

  1. Tertiary qualifications in welfare or associated field minimum diploma level.
  2. A sound knowledge and understanding of the complex needs of clients facing homelessness and dynamics of Domestic and Family Violence.
  3. Excellent communication skills, liaison, negotiation and advocacy skills
  4. Basic counselling and advocacy skills
  5. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy and time management.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development and commitment to evidence based practice.
  8. Knowledge of, and ability to use multidisciplinary teamwork, and to collaborate with other services/organisations relevant to case management and service delivery.
  9. Competent computer skills and ability to adapt to new IT systems 
  10. WWCC, National Criminal record Check, Full vaccination certificate against COVID 19
  11. Being female is a genuine Occupational Qualification to offer appropriate service to women and children under section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act.
  12. Going On Call and at times working after hours is a component of this work, applicants need to live within 40 km of Newcastle and hold a current NSW drivers license and comprehensively insured, reliable motor vehicle 

DESIRABLE

  1. knowledge of local housing pathways
  2. understanding of tenancy law 
  3. experience with CIMS assessments and data entry

A Multidisciplinary team will provide direct services to accompanied children and young people and their mother who are experiencing, or who have experienced, Domestic and Family Violence. They will work from a strengths-based approach using trauma informed and evidence-based practices to ensure a wrap around service model is achieved for children and young people.

This position forms part of the new Specialist Children and Young People Program within the Outreach team, and work within the SHS outcomes framework to provide direct services to children and young people that are trauma informed, family centred and culturally appropriate 

SELECTION CRITERIA Specialist Childrens Caseworker:

1. Relevant qualifications in Community Services, Welfare, Children services or equivalent at minimum diploma level. 

2. Reasonable practitioner experience in working collaboratively in a team and providing, assessments, case management and evidence based therapeutic interventions with children and families

3. Minimum of 12 months experience in working with children, families and community who have experienced domestic violence including demonstrated experience in trauma and mental health interventions

4. Demonstrated senior practitioner level communication skills, liaison, negotiation and advocacy skills

5. Significant post-study experience in a variety of interventions/modalities including

psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention and case management.

6. Advanced skills in working with complexity at individual, family and service levels, taking account of social, cultural, organisational and economic factors.

8. Competent computer skills and ability to adapt to new IT systems.

9. WWCC, National Criminal record Check, Full vaccination certificate against COVID 19
