Job description

Belmont Private Hospital is seeking a Music Therapist to commence in July 2024 in a  casual position with 14 – 21 negotiable hours per week. 

Belmont Private Hospital is a 185 bed acute mental health hospital with an established reputation for excellence in the delivery of a broad range of acute mental health services.  We offer a range of specialty and sub-specialties to meet the needs of the population.  Our hospital expansion makes Belmont Private Hospital the second largest private mental health facility in Australia.

Our new development includes a new and larger Brisbane Centre for Post Natal Disorders and Women’s Unit, a new Adolescent and Young Adult Unit, expansion of our current Older Person’s Unit, a newly built Trauma and Dissociation Unit and new group program rooms.

Belmont Therapy Programs (BTP) is a team of multidisciplinary professionals including Psychologists, Social Workers, Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Art Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, Music Therapists, and Allied Health Assistants. We provide various group therapy options for both inpatients and day patients at the hospital.  For an extensive overview of our groups, please visit our website.
 

About the Role

The Music Therapist will have the following responsibilities:

  • Deliver high level, evidence-based music therapy services to patients aged 16+ years with a broad range of mental health presentations.
  • Work collaboratively with team members including other Allied Health Professionals, Nursing staff, and Treating Psychiatrists.
  • Utilise effective communication skills to optimise clinical outcomes and work collaboratively with clients.
  • Facilitate inpatient and day patient therapeutic groups.

Essential Criteria and Qualifications

  • Formal qualifications in Music Therapy with registration from AMTA
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Music Therapist
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and autonomously within a team
  • Experience working with clients with complex needs in a hospital setting and presenting with severe and persistent mental health issues
  • Experience in providing group therapy sessions

Required competencies

  • All employees are required to complete and maintain their mandatory education and competencies in accordance with Belmont Private Hospital policies and procedures.

Vaccination Preventable Disease

This role is designated as ‘Vaccination Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role'.  It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment:

  • COVID-19
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
  • Varicella (chicken pox)
  • Pertussis (whooping cough)
  • Hepatitis B
  • You must be able to provide serology evidence for the above mentioned vaccinations
  • You are not susceptible to the VPD's listed in the role description

You will be asked by the recruiting manager to supply this evidence if you are the preferred candidate for the role.
