Rowville Secondary College invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced instrumental tutors of voice (singing), with the ability to teach students ranging from beginner to VCE music.
The position involves the teaching of students from Year 7 to VCE in individual lessons and some group lessons of up to two students. Experience in teaching in beginner programs is desired, alongside a thorough knowledge of VCE Music syllabuses (Music Inquiry, Contemporary Music Performance and VCE VET Music Performance). Many students are vocalists in our Rowville Institute of the Arts program and are passionate and motivated to become exceptional singers and performers. As such, current industry experience would be an advantage.
Ability to accompany students of all abilities within the music program would be an advantage but not a necessity.
The applicant will demonstrate developing conducting and/or ensemble leadership skills and has capacity to be responsible for a vocal ensemble, if required. This includes responsibility for a program of rehearsals and performances that fall both within and beyond the school day.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
- Provide individual and group voice (singing) tuition;
- Provide tuition in popular/contemporary and jazz for students specialising as part of VCE music;
- Encourage and prepare students for examinations, concerts, recording sessions and events;
- Direct ensembles as required;
- Contribute towards the music culture in the school community;
- Assist the Heads of Music with the ongoing management of the Instrumental Music Program; including involvement with school concerts, music camps, excursions and tours.
Who May Apply
Instrumental Music Tutors with a music degree or equivalent, or working towards the completion of a music degree, have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position, and a valid EMPLOYEE Working With Children Check.
Currently a 0.2 allotment (1 full day) with opportunity for growth.
